First Electric Cigarette Patent

Did you know that the first electronic or electric cigarette design was patented way back, on August 17th, 1965? It was Herbert A. Gilbert, from Beaver Falls, PA, who submitted this patent to the U.S. Patent Office (#3,200,819) as the original electric battery-powered, smokeless non-tobacco cigarette. Here it is published in a 1965 Popular Mechanics magazine.
